Paul Masson – "Paul Masson" EP

Hailing from Baltimore, Maryland comes a righteous dude named Paul Masson. Paul writes some of the smoothest country songs I’ve heard in a very long time, to the point where they are almost Southern Soul songs. Masson’s voice can only be described as a slightly “twangier” Ray Lamontagne. His self-titled debut EP is the perfect record to enjoy over a glass of wine with your babe as you, you know.. If you don’t drink wine and don’t have a babe, never fear, all three members of FPM will tell you that you can still enjoy the record on a Sunday morning or rainy day. Rain, by the way, is something we are getting all to used to out here on the West Coast. I think I’m going to swim to work tomorrow. Anyway, sorry for getting off track. Where was I? Oh yeah, Paul Masson.

Paul’s first single is the tune “My Girl Baltimore” and it is such a pretty tune that I’m sure makes cities like Chicago and Seattle wonder what the hell they are doing wrong. The lonesome country song is a sparse sounding number, but there is no denying the heartfelt honesty in the music. Baltimore is Paul’s home, and even though it might have taken him years of traveling to realize this, it doesn’t seem like he’s letting go any time soon.

We have yet to catch him live, but we hear that Paul puts on a helluva show. He cut his record to reflect his live sound and as a fan of all live music, that gets me really excited. I hate when bands overproduce their records and fall flat when it comes to the live show. Paul Masson won’t be falling flat.

This is a great introduction to an up-and-coming singer-songwriter who we will be hearing a lot about in the near future. If you’re a fan of heartfelt, honest music, I highly suggest you give this a try.
